After the eight-season run of “Good Bones” concluded in October, this new series will showcase Starsiak Hawk’s journey as she endeavors to establish her identity in the industry.

Taking to her Instagram Story on December 11, the HGTV star shared a video offering a glimpse into the progress of her new show. The clip featured Starsiak Hawk inside her vehicle, addressing the camera with enthusiasm. “Check out what we’re up to today,” she exclaimed in the short video, revealing a sizable stove in the back of the truck she was driving to the lake house.

During an October 17 episode of the “Mina AF” podcast, Mina Starsiak Hawk dropped exciting news about a spinoff project connected to her well-loved HGTV series. According to her revelations, she is gearing up to film a two-episode special that focuses on the renovation of her and her husband’s newly acquired lake house.

The concept for this spinoff originated from Starsiak Hawk herself, as she pitched the idea to HGTV earlier in the year. Fans can anticipate an in-depth exploration of the couple’s journey as they take on the challenges and joys of transforming their new lake house into a personalized and stylish space. This spinoff promises to provide a unique and intimate perspective on Starsiak Hawk’s design prowess and the collaborative efforts with her husband in creating their dream home.

Opening Up About Her ‘Good Bones’ Spinoff

Mina Starsiak Hawk experienced a profound and resonant year in 2023. In January, she kicked off her “Mina AF” podcast, providing a platform to candidly discuss various personal issues that have significantly impacted her life. Among the topics she delved into was her family’s struggle with alcohol, a matter she opened up about in an episode released on August 21.

Reflecting on her family dynamics, Starsiak Hawk disclosed, “I think in my family, it was, again, that term ‘functioning alcoholic.'” In this particular episode, she openly addressed the multitude of challenges her family faced, encompassing emotional, physical, and mental aspects. She admitted that these issues were so ingrained in her upbringing that they seemed normal at the time. This candid revelation sheds light on Starsiak Hawk’s willingness to share her personal journey, fostering a deeper connection with her audience.

Creating a positive and lasting legacy for her children holds significant importance for Starsiak Hawk. In the October 17 episode of her podcast, she shared her perspective on the upcoming spinoff project, viewing it as an opportunity to establish a meaningful legacy. Expressing her vision, she stated, “It’s this place that I can see in my mind that’s going to be for my family, but also for my extended family, to create these new, amazing memories.”

The HGTV star aspires to offer her children memorable experiences that they will treasure. She explained, “I have so many friends that I hear tell great stories about growing up at their grandparents’ lake house and running around in the woods and building forts and just being kids, and I want that for my kids.”

During the filming of her “Good Bones” spinoff, Starsiak Hawk intentionally sought to reconnect with her roots. Describing the current phase of the project, she shared,

“What I know right now is, first phase, we are filming for a two-episode spinoff, and it’s been really fun so far because Steve’s involved a lot, the kids are there a lot, MJ [Coyle] and Austin [Aynes] are there for demo, and it just kind of feels like getting back to when I started and it was just really fun and everything was joyful.”

This reflects her desire to infuse the project with a sense of joy and authenticity, reminiscent of her initial experiences in the field.

Breaking Off On Her Own

Mina Starsiak Hawk’s complex relationship with her mother, Karen E. Laine, is no secret, as she has been forthright about the challenges they face together. Speaking openly about their difficulties, Starsiak Hawk shared with People, “There were definitely some challenging moments because my mom and I were in some of the most challenging places I felt we’ve been.”

One of the most taxing aspects for Starsiak Hawk during the filming of “Good Bones” alongside her mother was the public perception of their relationship. She acknowledged,

“I think family business is hard enough on its own. And from what people know from the show, my mom and I are thick as thieves, best friends, and because they just don’t know anything else, they assume that’s how it’s always been. And I think a lot of people really aspire to that, so they don’t want to know other stuff, which is fine. But my mom and I have had a very rocky relationship since I have memories.”

With her “Good Bones” spinoff, Starsiak Hawk aims to return to her strengths. Despite any past reservations about having her own show, she expressed,

“While I’m sure at one point I would’ve said, ‘Never again am I doing my own show,’ I would in a heartbeat if it was something that I think I could maintain while also maintaining my sanity. I never tried to be on TV. I didn’t apply for this, but when it was good, I’m good at it,”

acknowledging her proficiency in the field.
