Joanna Gaines Opens Up About Emotional Changes and Evolving Relationship with Chip

Joanna Gaines has navigated a bustling year, marked by commemorating 20 years of Magnolia and conjugal bliss with Chip at Silobration, and inaugurating Hotel 1928. In a recent episode of the podcast This Morning Walk, hosted by Alex Elle and Libby Delana, Gaines delved into topics of relationships and parenting.

Even as spectators of the Fixer Upper universe, it’s evident that Joanna embodies a grounded presence in the relationship dynamic. Chip injects humor, while Jo provides sensible perspectives, fostering a commendable equilibrium. This balance likely contributed to their journey of raising five children, steering a thriving business, and confronting challenges as a united front. However, Joanna disclosed on the podcast that her approach to handling emotions has undergone a recent shift—and Chip’s take on it.

“…I feel like I’m going through a midlife crisis! Aren’t we all,” Gaines jests. “I’m not super emotional—Chip is the emotional one—but I have turned into something he doesn’t understand now. He’s like, ‘You cry all the time,’ and I’m like, ‘I’m just making up for the 20 years that I have been unemotional!'” She further shares that she embraces this new facet of her life, relishing the freedom to express her feelings and shedding the reluctance to cry when the moment arises. “There’s so much healing in not holding things in…Now I just love crying,” she confides to the podcast hosts. “It feels good to feel.”

In addition to navigating personal changes and the routine challenges of life, Joanna Gaines finds herself undergoing an emotional transformation during a crucial phase of motherhood. The departure of their eldest, Drake, who graduated high school and ventured off to college earlier this year, has left the businesswoman contending with an emptier nest and the realization that this is just the beginning of her children leaving home. Reflecting on this shift, Gaines acknowledges her aversion to change but highlights the beauty in this disruption, describing it as a blend of both sadness and joy.

With children aged 17, 15, 14, and five, Gaines anticipates the swift transition from a household of seven to three. Despite the challenges, she endeavors to approach the situation positively, emphasizing the profound connection she feels as a mother and the significance of home. While acknowledging the difficulty of such transitions for any family, Gaines’s open-hearted perspective is commendable, and fans eagerly await glimpses of her family dynamics in the latest Magnolia Network series, Fixer Upper: The Hotel.
