Castle Impossible stars Daphne and Ian Fig have shared a personal update with HGTV viewers: they are expecting their first child together. The couple, who are best known for restoring Château de Lésigny in France on their HGTV series, revealed the news in a June 2, 2026 episode, with the announcement first previewed in an exclusive clip shared by PEOPLE.
Daphne and Ian, also known by their full names Daphne Reckert and Ian Figueira, became familiar to HGTV fans through Castle Impossible, which follows their attempt to renovate and preserve a historic French chateau inherited through Daphne’s family. The show is not just a standard renovation series. It follows a couple trying to protect a large, aging estate while also turning it into a working business that can support the ongoing repairs. HGTV describes the property as a 500-year-old chateau in Lésigny, France, inherited from Daphne’s maternal grandparents.
Before HGTV viewers knew them as the couple trying to save a castle, Daphne and Ian had a long history together. They first met and briefly dated in high school in California. Daphne later left for community college in 2009, then transferred to UC Berkeley, where she studied Conservation Resource Studies. Ian, meanwhile, followed his grandfather’s path and joined the U.S. Air Force.
Their relationship picked back up years later. The two reconnected in 2015 while both were home in California for the holidays. At the time, Ian was out of the military and living in Arizona, while Daphne had finished at UC Berkeley. They spent part of their relationship long-distance while Ian studied in Arizona, then moved in together in California in 2017 after Ian transferred to California State University Monterey Bay.
Their plans changed when Daphne received a call from her grandmother saying her grandfather’s health was declining. In 2018, Daphne went to France, and Ian joined her by taking a six-month study abroad program in Paris. According to HGTV, Daphne eventually put her career plans on hold after it became clear the chateau was not bringing in enough money to support itself or help cover her grandfather’s care costs.

The couple got engaged in March 2020 and married privately on New Year’s Eve later that same year. Daphne’s grandfather died in November 2020, and the chateau became a much bigger part of their lives. Ian moved to France in August 2021 to help Daphne full-time, and by 2022, they were able to move into the Hunters Lodge on the property.
That background makes their pregnancy announcement more personal, but the reveal itself was kept simple and family-focused. In the episode clip shared by PEOPLE, Daphne and Ian announce the news during a dinner with Daphne’s grandmother and their close friend Anthony Raggett, a master craftsman who often helps them with major restoration projects on the property.
Daphne begins the reveal by telling Granny and Tony that they have “another small surprise” and asks them to look under their plates. Daphne’s grandmother then finds a white envelope hidden underneath her plate. Inside is a note and an ultrasound photo. The note tells her she is going to become a “super Granny” to Daphne and Ian’s baby.
Tony Raggett appears surprised and asks if the couple is having a baby. Daphne confirms the news, saying they are. The scene also includes Daphne’s grandmother reacting warmly to the announcement and saying she is glad she will get to rock the baby, whether the child is a boy or a girl.
Daphne also made clear that they do not yet know the baby’s sex. She said she loves that their “little chateau family is growing,” and added that it will be meaningful to have three generations living together. She also shared that becoming a mother is something she has wanted for a long time, saying she remembers pushing around her first doll as a young child and imagining motherhood one day.
The couple has not publicly shared every detail about the pregnancy, such as the baby’s due date, at least in the information included in the PEOPLE report. What has been confirmed is that this is Daphne and Ian’s first baby together, and the announcement is now part of their ongoing Castle Impossible story.
The timing also comes as Castle Impossible continues to follow the couple’s work at Château de Lésigny. Season 2 focuses on Daphne and Ian trying to make the chateau more sustainable by expanding their wedding and events business. Reported projects include a honeymoon suite in the dove tower, a tea salon, a dungeon tavern, a library, and the restoration of the gatehouse as a residence for Daphne’s grandmother.
For fans of the show, the pregnancy news adds a new real-life development to Daphne and Ian’s story. They are still dealing with the practical pressure of restoring a historic estate, managing a family property, and keeping the chateau business moving forward. Now, they are also preparing for their first child, bringing another major change into a life that has already shifted dramatically since Daphne first returned to France.
