Ricko DeWilde has emerged as one of the most recognized American hunters of our time, gaining widespread attention as a new addition to the popular TV series Life Below Zero. Ricko’s journey into hunting and survival began during his teenage years, where he honed these essential skills. Raised far from the trappings of modern society, Ricko was unaware that a world beyond his remote surroundings even existed. His formative years were spent on extended expeditions into the wilderness with his father and siblings, immersing himself in nature for days at a time.
Ricko DeWilde: A Glimpse Into His Career
Ricko DeWilde is an Indian-American hunter who has gained popularity not only for his skills but also for his unique upbringing. He was raised in a small Alaskan village where traditional ways of life were preserved and practiced daily. The family lived without any connection to modern civilization.
Born as the 11th child out of 14 to Lloyd and Amelia DeWilde—both now deceased—Ricko grew up in an environment that emphasized self-sufficiency. His parents homeschooled him and his siblings, focusing on practical survival skills alongside their education. Their childhood revolved around activities like hunting, gathering, trapping, and farming—all necessary for their sustenance in such an isolated location devoid of electricity or running water.
The cultural teachings passed down by their parents were invaluable; Amelia taught them how to craft fish nets, snare rabbits, and sew canvas mattresses among other things. Meanwhile, Lloyd focused on building canoes and boats while also teaching them how to construct fish traps. Hunting was another crucial skill imparted by their father—knowing when and what animals to hunt ensured they could provide food throughout the year.
Although Ricko spent much of his youth in Huslia—a remote area in Alaska—he eventually moved to Fairbanks but continues returning home regularly to hunt and gather meat for his family’s needs.
Family Life
Ricko is married with five children; however, details about his wife remain private as he prefers keeping certain aspects of personal life away from public scrutiny.
He had been in prison for drugs. That does not sound like an isolated existence to me.
