After years of walking through allegedly haunted properties for The Dead Files, Amy Allan is preparing to leave her own house for a very different reason.
The former Travel Channel star has revealed plans to reconnect with fans through an in-person appearance—an important step after spending much of the past several years away from television, managing ongoing health problems and rebuilding her life outside the demanding production schedule that once kept her travelling across the country.
Although Allan has not announced a new television series, her latest plan marks one of her clearest moves back into public life since leaving The Dead Files.

In her latest announcement, Allan admitted that leaving home and flying again feels intimidating. However, she also sounded genuinely excited about spending time with the people who have continued supporting her.
“Well, it looks like I’m going to be leaving the house,” Allan wrote, adding that she was “kinda scared to fly” but excited to meet fans and spend time talking with them in person.
The appearance appears to have been planned carefully around her energy levels. Allan said someone named John had arranged for her to have time to rest on the day after travelling, allowing her to arrive as rested and energised as possible before meeting attendees.
That detail is significant. Allan is not presenting the event as an instant return to her old schedule. Instead, she seems to be creating a more controlled version of public work—one that includes recovery time and recognises her current limitations.
She is also considering appearances in other parts of the country. Allan said she had attempted to arrange an event farther north in Flagstaff, Arizona, and that her friend Steve, whom she called “Uncle Creepy,” was trying to help. If that plan does not work, she indicated that she would explore other possibilities.
Her goal, she explained, is to thank as many supporters as possible face-to-face.
Why Amy Allan left The Dead Files
Allan became one of paranormal television’s most recognisable personalities after The Dead Files premiered in 2011.
The programme paired Allan, a self-described physical medium, with former NYPD homicide detective Steve DiSchiavi. While DiSchiavi investigated a property’s documented history, Allan conducted a separate walkthrough and described the presences or events she believed she encountered. Their findings were brought together during the programme’s final reveal.
After participating in more than 200 investigations, Allan stepped away during Season 15. Her final episode aired on June 29, 2023, and fellow medium Cindy Kaza assumed her role alongside DiSchiavi. At the time, the departure was described as a personal break following years of intense work.
Allan later gave fans a clearer picture of why that break was necessary. She had been dealing with major physical and emotional health challenges while also recovering from the exhausting pace of repeated travel and paranormal investigations.
Her departure therefore became less of a conventional television exit and more of a reset. Rather than immediately pursuing another series, she largely withdrew from the schedule that had defined her life for more than a decade.
What Amy Allan has been doing since leaving television
Allan has remained connected with followers through social media, but her activities have been smaller and more flexible than her former television workload.
One of her most consistent projects has been her online shop. She has regularly shared photographs of merchandise, collectables and other items available through the store. In January, she announced that the shop was fully operational again after a difficult period in her personal life.
She also announced plans to begin an international school programme and suggested that she hoped eventually to resume working with clients. However, she did not publicly provide the programme’s name or later offer a detailed confirmation that classes had begun.
Taken together, these updates suggested that Allan was trying to rebuild her professional life slowly—through education, online sales and potentially private work—rather than immediately returning to full-scale television production.
The newly announced fan appearance now adds another piece to that gradual comeback.
Her health remains part of the planning
Allan’s recent public absence has unfolded alongside treatment for several conditions she has identified as ME/CFS, fibromyalgia and complex post-traumatic stress disorder, or CPTSD.
In January, Allan said she had begun a new medication intended to help manage her symptoms. That update came during an especially stressful period in which she also reported a home intrusion and a car accident involving her vehicle. Allan clarified that she had not been inside the car and that “D”—apparently her dog Desi—was safe.
The medication transition was not immediately successful. In a later post, Allan said the switch had been difficult and that she expected the dosage to be increased.
She subsequently began hormone replacement therapy. In her most recent substantial health update, Allan said she had been using HRT for approximately a month and a half. She described the treatment as going “okay,” although she had not yet noticed a clear change.
At the same time, she said anxiety attacks, CPTSD flashbacks and other episodes were continuing, leading her to consider asking for a higher dose of her other medication.
Allan has therefore not claimed to be completely recovered. Her latest announcement instead shows that she is finding ways to move forward while continuing treatment.
A carefully managed return to public life
For fans hoping to see Allan return to paranormal television, the announcement does not confirm a new series, a Dead Files reunion or a return to regular investigations.
What it does confirm is that she is prepared to become more publicly active again.
The planned appearance will allow Allan to reconnect with supporters without taking on the physical demands of filming multiple investigations in different locations. The built-in rest period after travelling also suggests that those around her are helping structure the event around her health rather than expecting her to work through exhaustion.
Her interest in arranging a West Coast event further indicates that this may not be a one-time appearance. Nothing beyond the first plan has been formally confirmed, but Allan appears open to meeting more fans when suitable opportunities and accommodations become available.
After leaving The Dead Files, running her online store, exploring school and working through a complicated treatment process, Amy Allan’s next chapter is finally beginning to take shape.
It may not yet be the television comeback some fans have been waiting for. But for Allan, simply getting back on a plane, entering a public venue and speaking directly with the people who supported her could represent something equally meaningful: a cautious return to the work and community she has missed.
