It’s devastating news for the fans of Chip Hailstone from Life Below Zero that he is still in jail. What happened to him and why did he go to jail? The article is the answer to those who are not yet clear about his crime.
Life Below Zero is a well-known reality show airing on the National Geographic Channel since 2013. The popularity of the show has been increasing over seasons. Chip Hailstone is one of the idols of the show who has been stealing the show for his role as a hunter who lives in the wilderness of the Alaskan forest.
Today we are going to discuss the crime he has committed and the reason for his jail.
Why did chip hailstone go to jail? What happened?
Back in 2011, he had claimed that a state trooper had physically assaulted his daughter. According to him, the trooper had put his eldest daughter Tinmaiq on submissive hold while she stretched her arms out when she was only 17 years old then. He had first asked for a restraining order for his daughter and later also filed an appeal for his perjury convictions.
In another incident, he had claimed that someone had pointed a gun at his daughter. This incident had involved his son too.
Hailstone was charged twice with Perjury and twice of making false statements to the police officers in the Second Judicial Court in Kotzebue.
As a punishment, the ‘Life Below Zero’ Star Chip Hailstone was sentenced to the imprisonment.
How long will he be in jail?
As of July 2017, he was sentenced to 15 months of imprisonment leaving his family alone for hunting. Since it has been months he hasn’t been on the show, it seems he will still be away for almost a year.

They live together in a small town called Noorvik in the freezing cold atmosphere with very less basic facilities. The only source of income to the family is hunting and the money they get through the show.
How much of the show is staged? Also, where does the filming crew live when they are filming the episodes?
I am so in love with Agnes ( my true dream woman ) she is a beauty , a true soul and such a feminine woman at the same time ! She is the leader of the two ! Never criticize , sharp shooter , great all around ! I want her !!!
Loup !
The hailstones wound more animals by slinging bullets in their general direction. I can’t believe the old weapons they attempt to kill animals with. No hunting involved, just slaughter and alot of dead animals they wounded and never looked for. What a waste!
Obviously you don’t watch the show. THEY’RE GREAT PEOPLE, and you are an animal activist. They don’t leave any animals. Jealous cuz you can’t do what they can do. Hahahaha. LOL
And you know how many animals are wounded, how? The rifle Agnes uses is a Russian made Moisin Nagant. Yes, it is old, but VERY reliable and VERY accurate and can be purchased for a very reasonable price. It serves their needs and those of many people of limited means. Contrary to what many uneducated people may believe, when a person is hunting, not every shot results in a kill. It’s called “hunting” not “Walmart shopping”. Chip and Agnes are the real thing when it comes to subsistence lifestyle. That is still the primary way of life for much of humanity.
Did agree with you Burt. They take very good care of their guns and I like Chips powder gun, so cool and well taken care of
I just starting watching the show and on the 2nd episode. I noticed that Chip Hailstones does not do any shooting of animals just his wife.
From my understanding it is because she is a native eskimo from her tribe and she is a better shot than him so i think that is why she is allowed to shoot because i remember one episode that he mentioned that it was due to her being a native of Alaska and only she could do the shooting on that hunt.
Chip Hailstone is prevented from using a weapon more importantly any guns that aren’t black-powder because he’s a convicted felon. He is currently doing 15 months in prison for lying about two separate incidents involving
a State Trooper allegedly assaulting his daughter and another subject allegedly pointing a gun at his son both of which were found to be totally factless and untrue
Eskimos can hunt seals and whales and hunting laws and bags limits and means and methods are different from the white man
Harold baskeyfield. I watch all the episodes and have done a long time I like all those involved. The only thing I see that is wasteful is the fish heads by the hailstones. I am looking forward to the new episodes in January. I live in England am 85 and would have loved to have done those things when I was a young man .i have been to Alaska …….lovely place.
