Mina Starsiak Hawk, the powerhouse behind HGTV’s Good Bones, has always been known for her unfiltered honesty. Whether it’s tackling rundown properties, navigating motherhood, or opening up about personal battles, Mina has never shied away from showing life as it really is.

But her latest update has fans deeply concerned. This week, the beloved renovator and podcast host revealed she had been admitted to the hospital—without sharing exactly why. While she hasn’t confirmed the reason, speculation is growing that it could be linked to a skin infection, possibly stemming from cosmetic procedures she underwent earlier this year.

Before diving into what may have landed her in a hospital bed, it’s important to understand Mina’s journey. For years, she’s battled with anxiety and mental health struggles, often rooted in the enormous pressures of building a public-facing career, maintaining a family, and living up to ever-changing societal standards.

She has been transparent about taking medications like Lexapro and Wellbutrin, attending therapy, and dealing with withdrawal symptoms after stopping her SSRI medication. The emotional rollercoaster of trying to manage mental health while juggling motherhood and business hasn’t been easy—and she’s been vocal about that.

After giving birth to two children via C-section, Mina found her body had changed in ways that left her struggling to feel like herself. She developed diastasis recti, a separation in her abdominal muscles that can occur during pregnancy, leaving her with core weakness and noticeable body changes.

No matter how much she worked out or focused on healthy eating, her body didn’t bounce back the way she hoped. The frustration and disappointment that followed weren’t about vanity, she explained, but about reclaiming strength and confidence in her own skin.

So she made a decision—one she would share with her fans openly: to go under the knife. In 2020, she underwent a full “mommy makeover,” which included a tummy tuck to repair her core muscles, liposuction to remove stubborn fat, breast augmentation, and fat transfer to her buttocks. The recovery was intense and humbling. She documented her swollen, hunched-over state in post-op updates and was candid about the discomfort and emotional toll. But for Mina, the outcome was worth it. She said the procedures helped her feel strong again—like herself.

More recently, in late 2023, she went in for additional enhancements: a butt lift and upper eyelid surgery. She’d lost a significant amount of weight, and her once-toned features had started to feel hollow or deflated. She carefully considered the procedures for over a year before committing.

Mina also tried CO₂ hybrid laser resurfacing in January 2025, a skin treatment that left her face red, swollen, and raw for days. Again, she didn’t sugarcoat the healing process, showing up online with ointment-covered skin and eyes still puffy from the procedure. She wanted her fans to see the reality behind the filtered results.

Now, fast-forward to June 2025. Mina shared that she is starting this week in the hospital. She hasn’t revealed many details, only that she’s been admitted. But whispers in fan circles suggest that a possible infection from her earlier cosmetic treatments—most likely from the aggressive CO₂ resurfacing—may be the cause. Skin infections are rare but real risks with such procedures, especially if healing is delayed or if the skin barrier is compromised. Given her history of openness, it’s likely Mina will eventually speak out once she’s recovered. Until then, fans are left hoping this hospital stay is brief and not something more serious.

Mina’s mental health is not as severe as her Mom’s mental illness which my guess is a bipolar diagnosis and probably is not taking her medication. In fact taking non psychotropic drugs for depression is not nearly as debilitating as one who needs the psychotropic drugs as in a bipolar diagnosis. Please don’t cause unneeded trauma to someone e who is looking to stay mentally fit as opposed to another who will never be fit. Being raised by a mentally ill parent is traumatizing enough. Her mother was a continuing mental mess during the seven years of filming het show! Of course she’s seeking help to cope with her mother’s illness, it’s very stressful to do so on a regular basis esp if she’s not medicating herself.
