Cake Boss star Buddy Valastro was hospitalized in September 2020 due to a devastating bowling accident that necessitated multiple surgeries on his hand. According to his spokesperson, the mishap occurred while Valastro was enjoying precious moments with his loved ones at their residence in New Jersey, which boasts its very own bowling alley.
Providing further details, the representative stated, “While attempting to address a routine issue with the bowling pinsetter, which had been resolved countless times before, an unfortunate incident unfolded.”
Elaborating on the incident, they added, “During an attempt to disengage the bowling pin from the cage mechanism, his right hand became trapped and subjected to significant compression within the device.”
Trapped and unable to free his hand, Buddy Valastro witnessed a harrowing sequence of events as a 1-1/2 inch metal rod pierced his hand not once, but three times, piercing the space between his ring finger and middle finger.
In a remarkable display of bravery and quick thinking, Buddy’s sons, Buddy Jr. and Marco, sprang into action. Utilizing a reciprocating saw, they skillfully cut through the metal rod, liberating their father from the clutches of the machine and providing much-needed relief.

Buddy took to his Instagram stories to share the details of the traumatic incident, as he emotionally recounted how his teenage son played a crucial role in rescuing him from the excruciating situation when the metal rod pierced his hand.
Through tear-filled eyes, he addressed his devoted fans, saying, “I recently had a truly terrible accident at my home. It involved my hand, and I’m currently receiving top-notch care at HSS in the city, ensuring I receive the best possible treatment.”
Directly speaking to his followers, Buddy expressed his heartfelt gratitude, saying, “I want to take a moment to sincerely thank all of you for the overwhelming love and support. We will navigate this challenging journey together.”

I may not have a future as a hand model, but I have regained my strength and many of my abilities. I would say I’m at about 95%. I just need one more surgery to straighten out this finger a bit. Considering where I started and where I am now, I am truly grateful. It was an unbelievable journey.”
This update arrives nearly one year after Buddy underwent his fifth surgery, which he referred to as a “game changer.”
