Design Star and Design Star: Next Gen
Where to watch: HGTV and Discovery+
Design Star is a familiar show for this for people who have watched more than just a little HGTV. This program was aired from 2006 to 2013 (it was re-born this year) and follows a host of contestants participating in design-oriented tasks for the chance to actually get their own HGTV programs. The first winner of the competition, David Bromstad, became a household name. His first, bold trademark series was Color Splash. Now, however, he sports rainbow-colored clothes and finds other folks their dream homes on My Lottery Dream Home.
A big boost to Tiffany Brooks, winner of the eighth season of Design Star! When this year’s prestigious AD100 list came out back in January, she was on it. So the winners of the season are not just springboards for up-and-coming talent in design. In fact, they excel at letting us all know just how busy they keep themselves doing great work: both domestically (as interior decorators) and overseas (in television programs).
