David, known as “The Tile Guy,” is a licensed contractor who collaborates closely with architects, designers, and contractors in Calgary. He made the strategic decision to name his business after himself, which has since evolved into a well-respected franchise in the industry.
Since moving his family to Calgary in 2001, David’s business has thrived for over two decades. His growing reputation eventually led him to opportunities on television and appearances on HGTV. Today, David works alongside his eldest son, who is being groomed to take over the family business in the future.
Who is David The Tile Guy from Hometown?
David “The Tile Guy” is a seasoned construction professional with a specialization in tile work. Born and raised in Vancouver, he began his career immediately after finishing high school back in 1981. As a Canadian by birthright, David honed his skills through hands-on experience as an apprentice under various contractors.
During this time, he mastered traditional techniques like Sand & Cement—methods that have largely fallen out of use today. Eventually joining the Tile Settler’s Union allowed him to work on upscale properties throughout Vancouver.
What Happened to David The Tile Guy on Hometown?
David became a familiar face on HGTV’s show Hometown, where viewers admired his craftsmanship and expertise. Over time, he had the opportunity to collaborate with other DIY experts such as Ben and Erin Napier.
However, fans may have noticed that David’s appearances on television have become increasingly rare recently. This shift occurred because he decided to step back from TV projects temporarily so that he could concentrate more fully on expanding his own business ventures and pursuing personal interests—including photography at sporting events.
Although he’s less visible onscreen these days, David continues working behind the scenes with Ben and Erin Napier but limits how often he’s featured on TV.
What Is He Doing Now?
Currently focused primarily on growing his company based out of Calgary, David has seen significant expansion since first relocating there years ago. His firm now offers an array of services ranging from large porcelain sheet installations to new home constructions and bathroom renovations.
In addition to residential projects like these, Dave’s company also handles commercial contracts for local schools and restaurants across Calgary. Outside of work hours though? Dave enjoys spending time camping—a hobby he’s taken up recently—as well as continuing some involvement with floor/tiling projects for Ben & Erin Napier when needed.
