Valerie Bertinelli’s Cookbook 2024

Valerie Bertinelli is known for wearing her heart on her sleeve. The star of “One Day at a Time” values the strength of human connection, finding solace and healing through her interactions with fans. Her latest endeavor, “Indulge: Delicious and Decadent Dishes to Enjoy and Share,” showcases this ethos.

As a New York Times bestselling author, Bertinelli presents a collection of 100 recipes in her latest book, aiming to not only satiate appetites but also nourish both body and soul.

Valerie Bertinelli generously shares a variety of enticing recipes in her latest book, including tempting dishes such as garlic confit BLT, oven-“fried” okra, sausage and olive cheese bites, spaghetti al limone, salmon burgers with quick-pickled vegetables, filet mignon with béarnaise sauce, and chocolate peanut butter dates.

Reflecting on her 2023 book, “Enough Already,” Bertinelli describes it as primarily a cookbook, yet an extension of her personal journey. The book emerged from a period of profound loss, with the passing of both her mother and Ed (Eddie Van Halen), followed by the challenges of a failing marriage. Struggling with grief and dissatisfaction, she felt adrift until she found solace in the kitchen.

“I didn’t love anything about my life,” she admits, recalling feeling overwhelmed and disconnected. However, rediscovering her passion for cooking gradually revitalized her. “I started writing recipes, and I started to get excited,” she shares. “I was talking about food in a way I never had before.”

Bertinelli candidly discusses her culinary and personal odyssey on her upcoming book tour, including a stop at All Saints Church in Pasadena on April 15th at 7 p.m., sponsored by Vroman’s. Anticipating the event, she expresses excitement about meeting fans, particularly those who have connected with her through social media platforms like Instagram and Threads.

Valerie Bertinelli, known for her candid and colorful conversations, finds herself in a happier place than ever before, a sentiment reflected in the title of her latest book.

“I think we need to indulge in all of the joys in our lives,” she remarks. “Food is there to nourish our bodies. It’s helped me a lot. Today, I am much happier and calmer. I’ve given myself a bit more grace in the last few years. I think, for me, getting in the kitchen and experimenting was great.”

Approaching 60 brought about a significant shift in Bertinelli’s outlook. “I have 25 years left — if I’m lucky,” she muses. “I don’t give a damn anymore. You either like me or you don’t. If you don’t, I’ve said worse things to myself. I’m not for everybody. I’m too old for this nonsense. If you’re negative, get out of my life. I want to have fun and hang out and have the best time of my life. I can’t believe how flipping happy I am. I never thought I would get here two years ago.”

Bertinelli cherishes her close relationship with her son, Wolfgang Van Halen, who is currently on a world tour with his band, Mammoth WVH. Their bond was evident when she accompanied him to the Oscars, where he performed alongside Ryan Gosling and Slash on “I’m Just Ken.”

“I was so proud of him,” Bertinelli beams. “He’s been through so much in his life as well. I gush over him. When we were in the car (after the Oscars), I told him he’s grace under pressure like I had never seen before. He does it with professionalism, kindness, he’s on time. He’s just a good human being.”

Expressing admiration for her son’s achievements and his marriage to a wonderful woman, Bertinelli’s belief in Wolfgang mirrors her belief in herself.

“I have a lot of belief in myself,” she asserts. “I do love cooking. I’m not a perfect cook by any means whatsoever. I love to share what I know.”
