Valerie Bertinelli is fearlessly sharing her unfiltered perspective. The former “One Day at a Time” star took to TikTok on Sunday in response to a user who had sarcastically commented, “The Botox looks great,” on one of her previous videos. Rather than taking offense, the Food Network personality chose to address the comment thoughtfully.
“I understand your intention wasn’t to offer a compliment, but let’s delve into this, shall we?” Bertinelli started. “I’ve experimented with Botox before, and honestly, I didn’t have a positive experience with it.”
Valerie Bertinelli, renowned for her role in “Hot in Cleveland,” proceeded to share more insights. She displayed a picture of herself taken six years back, a period when she indeed underwent Botox treatment. She candidly revealed that the outcome was unexpected, altering the shape of her eyebrows to the point where she struggled to recognize her own reflection.
Opening up further, Bertinelli disclosed her initial intent behind seeking Botox. She sought the procedure to address her genetically predisposed puffy eyes, which had long been a source of personal frustration. In her honesty, she admitted desiring those coveted deep-set eyes but eventually coming to terms with the reality that her natural features wouldn’t change to that extent. Her conclusion was to accept and embrace herself as she is.
However, Bertinelli’s intention for addressing the comment extended beyond discussing her experience with Botox. She emphasized the crucial point she wished to convey. Referring back to her appearance on “Today” in 2020, Bertinelli questioned why the commenter, who was also a woman, felt the need to shame her.
She recognized the unfortunate trend of online shaming, acknowledging that it’s not an isolated incident in the world of platforms like TikTok or Instagram. Bertinelli emphasized the importance of solidarity among women, urging against shaming others for their choices to enhance their self-esteem in a world that can often be overwhelming and unpredictable.
Breaking down any stigma associated with cosmetic procedures, she admitted that if Botox had positively impacted her self-confidence, she would continue using it. Bertinelli acknowledged that some individuals find great results with Botox, though she personally didn’t. She humorously expressed her relief when the effects of her treatment gradually faded, highlighting that she eagerly awaited its disappearance.
Addressing the use of filters, Bertinelli candidly admitted to utilizing the “Water Glow” filter on TikTok to soften her features. She temporarily removed the filter to illustrate her point. She humorously described how the filter helps with various aspects, including concealing under-eye circles due to the variable quality of sleep she gets.
Concluding her thoughts, Bertinelli underscored the importance of not shaming individuals for their choices or appearances. She emphasized unity in the face of body shaming, recalling a similar sentiment she shared in 2021 when responding to disparaging comments about her body on Instagram. She reiterated that kindness, patience, and grace should be extended to others, as one can never truly know what someone else might be going through.
