On Wednesday, September 4, HGTV brought back two beloved fan-favorite shows, Unsellable Houses and Bargain Block, much to the delight of viewers. The network saw a huge ratings success, and by September 9, the results were in — both shows dominated the night.
The ratings for this double premiere made it HGTV’s highest-rated Wednesday in nearly two years, with Bynum and Thomas both taking to Instagram to celebrate the milestone. Thomas enthusiastically posted on his story, “Thanks for tuning in y’all! This was just a warm-up. Much better episodes this season to come, and of course NOLA 😍 😍.” Bynum kept it simple, sharing the news with an array of heart emojis, clearly overwhelmed by the success.
HGTV Shares New Details on ‘Bargain Block: New Orleans’
In a September 5 update, HGTV shared more details about the upcoming Bargain Block: New Orleans spin-off, which has fans buzzing with excitement.
The show will feature Bynum and Thomas revitalizing a block of run-down houses in New Orleans while immersing themselves in the vibrant local culture, including participating in Mardi Gras festivities and savoring a classic crawfish boil. The five-episode spin-off will air mid-season, giving fans a total of 15 weeks of content from the Detroit-based duo.
High Noon Entertainment, the production company behind both Unsellable Houses and Bargain Block, also took to Instagram on September 9 to celebrate the ratings success, writing,
“Congratulations to the ‘Unsellable Houses’ and ‘Bargain Block’ crew on HGTV’s highest rated Wednesday and thank you to our dedicated audience for tuning in 👏 🏆 🎬 🏡 ❗.”
Evan Thomas Talks ‘Fairytale House’ From Bargain Block Premiere
After the September 4 premiere, Evan Thomas took to Instagram again on September 5 to give fans a closer look at the “Fairytale House” featured in the episode. Thomas shared multiple photos of the completed house, explaining that Keith Bynum had drawn inspiration from the original round front door, even though they couldn’t save it. They managed to recreate the door, delivering what Thomas called “alllll the fairytale vibes!”
One viewer pointed out that the finished porch railing didn’t appear in the show, commenting, “Last night’s show didn’t let us see the finished porch with banister. This is so much better!” Thomas responded with a laugh, confirming that the house wasn’t finished in time for the show.
Fans also expressed their joy at seeing the designers return, with one writing, “Keith, Evan & Shea I am glad to see you back on! Last night didn’t disappoint… Your chemistry is amazing!!!”
Ratings Reveal Massive Success
According to Warner Bros. Discovery, Unsellable Houses, led by twin sisters Lyndsay Lamb and Leslie Davis, attracted over 2 million viewers, while Bargain Block, featuring Keith Bynum and Evan Thomas, topped the night with over 2.4 million viewers.
he viewership for Bargain Block ranked as the highest-rated Wednesday night on HGTV in almost two years, highlighting the immense popularity of these shows and setting the stage for a promising season ahead.
Perhaps the ratings are so high because we’re all tired of the competition shows. It’s nice to be able to watch people use their talents together to make something beautiful!
On the fairy tale house, what happened to the round top window on the second floor? The finished product did not have it.
I will not be watching the shows airing in New Orleans, not one of my favorite cities.
I feel leaving Detroit is biting the hand that fed them. Sad to hear this news, I loved watching their shows.
