Troy Landry Opens Up About Prostate Cancer and Shares a Health Update

For years, Troy Landry has been one of the most recognizable faces on reality television. To many viewers, he is not just a hunter from Louisiana, but the tough, funny, straight-talking heart of Swamp People. That is exactly why fans get worried so quickly whenever an old hospital photo starts circulating online. Recently, concern around Troy’s health picked up again, and this time he decided to answer the truth himself.

Landry built his reputation as the “King of the Swamp,” a title tied to both his real-life alligator hunting background and his long run on History’s hit series. History describes him as one of the most well-known and fearless hunters in the bayou, noting that he works alongside his sons Jacob and Chase and regularly fills more tags than anyone else in the swamp. In an interview with Explore Louisiana, Troy also spoke about how the show changed his life, saying the attention from fans has been overwhelmingly positive and that people recognize him everywhere he goes.
Apart from the cancer scare, Landry had already gone through another serious medical issue. Some online posts now describe it as a neck surgery, but the clearest updates tied to Troy’s own Facebook page identify it as back surgery in November 2021. In one update, he said he had surgery because of tissue around a nerve; in another, he shared that the operation had gone well and that he went from having pain “24/7” to no pain afterward. That helps explain why fans were alarmed then too: it was not a minor ache, but a painful problem that had clearly been bothering him for some time.

Then came the bigger health shock. In June 2022, Troy revealed that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer and had surgery to remove his prostate. Later reporting said his son Jacob updated fans in August 2022, explaining that Troy was back home, feeling much better, and that doctors believed they had gotten everything out. By 2023, coverage of Troy’s recovery showed him back in the swamp, spending time with family and returning to the routines fans know him for.
So why is Troy talking about that cancer battle again now, years later? Because an old photo was being reused to create fake health stories. In his own words, he told fans, “I AM FINE!” and explained that the 2022 prostate surgery “went fine.” He also said the image was being used in fake videos to stir up fear. In other words, this was not a new diagnosis at all. It was Troy stepping in to calm worried fans, shut down misinformation, and thank the people who still care enough to check on him.
