A month ago, the curtain fell on the fourth season of the reality show “Rock the Block,” which spanned six thrilling episodes. Yet, even now, HGTV fans can’t stop reminiscing about the unforgettable cast members who brought their unique flair to each episode.
The show’s premise revolves around renovation experts who transform homes with their distinct design signatures. Thanks to its compelling concept and execution, “Rock the Block” became a massive hit for HGTV, drawing in an impressive audience of over 12.7 million viewers.
Loren Ruch, HGTV’s production manager, described it as a “rating sensation.” As we reflect on the stunning designs and intense competition that unfolded throughout the season, one question lingers: Do these dedicated participants receive any financial reward for their efforts?
Season 4 of “Rock the Block” featured some of HGTV’s most beloved personalities. The lineup included Anthony Elle and Michel Smith Boyd from Luxe for Less; Sarah and Bryan Baeumler from Renovation Island; Page Turner from Fix My Flip alongside Mitch Glew; as well as Jonathan Knight and Kristina Crestin from Farmhouse Fixer. In a nail-biting finale, designers Michel Smith Boyd and Anthony Elle emerged victorious.
This season raised the stakes higher than ever before—the unrenovated homes started at a whopping $1.9 million price tag with an additional $250,000 budget allocated for renovations. By season’s end, Michel and Anthony had elevated their property’s value to an astounding $2.7 million.
The challenge was not just about creativity but also endurance—both physically and mentally taxing on all involved. Page Turner noted that participating in this show tested contestants’ core motivations for why they do what they do.
Contestants were tasked with redesigning a sprawling 5,000-square-foot home within just six weeks while working under tight budget constraints—a feat that required long hours well beyond what cameras captured each day.
“We often stayed six hours after filming wrapped up,” Page shared candidly about her experience on set. “That meant we were there 12-14 hours daily—it was incredibly tough work! But would I do it again? Absolutely.”
Interestingly enough though—unlike many other reality competition shows—the participants didn’t join solely for monetary gain or grand prizes because there isn’t one! Instead of cash rewards or giant checks handed out at victory ceremonies like other shows might offer—the winning team earns something far more symbolic: having their names immortalized on street signs within newly developed neighborhoods where these renovated houses stand tall today!
Additionally—and perhaps even more meaningfully—a donation is made in honor of each winning team towards No Kid Hungry (a non-profit organization), providing approximately 100k meals directly benefiting children facing hunger across America!
So why compete if not primarily motivated by financial incentives? For many HGTV stars involved—it’s all about increasing visibility & exposure across various projects they’re already working hard upon elsewhere within network programming schedules too!
When asked during an interview with Daily Comet how important winning really was—Michel Smith Boyd responded thoughtfully saying “Hopefully this win guarantees another season renewal” adding further how being crowned champion feels akin almost like reigning supreme over entire channel itself throughout year ahead too!
While no official word has yet been given regarding when next installment might air—we can only hope based off current popularity levels alone—that Rock The Block returns sooner rather than later!
