This week marks Mina Starsiak Hawk’s much-anticipated return to HGTV, following the conclusion of her beloved series, Good Bones, five months ago.
In the premiere episode of House Hunters: All Stars, airing this Thursday, the Indiana native lends her expertise to assist an artist named Siena in finding her dream home in downtown Indianapolis, following her move from Hawaii.
In the preview clip provided above, viewers catch a glimpse of Starsiak Hawk in action as she guides Siena through one of the potential properties—a charming craftsman house dating back to 1895.
Starsiak Hawk, who resides in the city with her husband Steve Hawk and their two young children—5-year-old son Jack and 3-year-old daughter Charlie—brings her signature flair and insight to the house-hunting journey.
“Interesting facade, quite moody in its exterior vibe, but the colors aren’t too bad,” Siena remarks.
“Not hating it is a good start,” Mina responds with a grin.
Although Siena confesses the home isn’t quite what she had envisioned, Mina highlights its unique “character.”
“It’s definitely got character,” Siena concurs, eyeing the rope lights, which Mina acknowledges as “definitely a deliberate choice.”
Mina bid farewell to her long-time stint on Good Bones, a show she co-starred in alongside her mother, Karen E. Laine, and several other family members, culminating after 8 successful seasons in October 2023.
Following the series finale, Mina opened up about the behind-the-scenes tensions within her family on her podcast, Mina AF. She candidly disclosed that she wasn’t “in a great place” with either her brother Tad or her mother.
During a recent episode, she reflected,
“I think it’s been really odd or uncomfortable for a lot of people since the show ended the way it did, and that curtain was pulled back a bit. People realized, ‘Oh, Mina and her mom don’t have this perfect relationship like it seems on the show.’ And then you have people saying, ‘You know what? I can actually see that. I can see them getting annoyed with each other.'”
Mina has openly discussed the decision to conclude Good Bones, citing financial considerations as a primary factor. According to her, the economics of the show simply didn’t add up.
She clarified a common misconception among fans, noting that not everyone seen on Good Bones was employed by her company, Two Chicks. As she has previously mentioned, her relatives and other cast members haven’t been part of Two Chicks’ workforce “for the past handful of years.”
Moreover, Mina revealed that being the sole owner of the company created additional challenges behind the scenes. While everyone else seemed to be enjoying themselves, there was a lack of shared responsibility and investment in the business. This disparity ultimately contributed to the decision to end the show.
Mina acknowledged the disappointment expressed by Good Bones viewers regarding the decision to conclude the show, particularly on social media platforms.
“When it came to an end, it wasn’t just about disappointing the individuals directly involved in the show—the production team, those who had jobs because of it, and my family who were compensated for their participation,” she shared. “It felt like letting down a whole community of HGTV women, and they made sure I knew it. They expressed their deep disappointment.”
Reflecting on the aftermath, Mina described a challenging six months of emotional turmoil. Despite her efforts to maintain a balanced perspective, the constant barrage of negative comments took its toll. “It’s incredibly difficult to endure incessant negativity day in and day out without it affecting you,” she admitted.
Moving forward, Mina embraces a new role in House Hunters: All Stars, where she makes a special appearance as part of a larger ensemble of HGTV stars. Each luminary assists potential homeowners with their house hunts in their respective hometowns.
Future episodes will feature prominent figures such as Heather Rae El Moussa of The Flipping El Moussas, Keith Bynum and Evan Thomas of Bargain Block, Brian and Mika Kleinschmidt of 100 Day Dream Home, Jasmine Roth of Help! I Wrecked My House, and Egypt Sherrod and Mike Jackson of Married to Real Estate.
