Lisa Kelly from ‘Ice Road Truckers’ Discusses the Potential Comeback of the Series

“The Ice Road,” released on Netflix in June 2021 and featuring Liam Neeson as a truck driver navigating perilous ice-covered roads, garnered positive reviews. The film shed light on the risky world of ice road trucking, a profession previously explored by the History reality series “Ice Road Truckers.”

Similar to “Deadliest Catch,” which showcases crab fishermen in challenging Alaskan waters, “Ice Road Truckers” delves into the often-overlooked and hazardous realm of ice road trucking. The show not only provides insights into the profession but also introduces viewers to recurring cast members, with their personalities becoming an integral part of the viewing experience.

Lisa Kelly, a key contributor to the series, joined during Season 3 and participated in a total of eight seasons, including a couple of spinoffs. Her last appearance was in Season 11 in 2017, which, as of now, marks the show’s latest season. Despite the absence of new episodes since 2017, History has not officially announced the cancellation of “Ice Road Truckers.” In a recent interview discussing her profession, Lisa Kelly herself raised the possibility of the series making a comeback.

Ice Road Truckers” Star Lisa Kelly Addresses Series’ Potential Return Amidst Pandemic Impact

Lisa Kelly, a prominent figure on “Ice Road Truckers,” expressed her thoughts on the show’s potential return during a video interview with the trucking publication Overdrive. As the conversation concluded, interviewer Max Heine inquired if Kelly had additional comments to share.

Kelly revealed, “The show’s been on hiatus for a while, and I wish it would come back. I know there’s been talk of it, but I feel like this whole COVID thing kind of put a stop on everything. So, I don’t know. That’s kind of the whole change thing going on. I don’t know what’s going to happen.”

Heine then delved into the impact of the pandemic on Alaska’s freight industry. Kelly highlighted a significant decrease in overall work volume due to escalating oil and gas prices, providing additional context on why the return of “Ice Road Truckers” may face challenges amid the ongoing pandemic.

In a separate 2020 interview with Deals on Wheels, another “Ice Road Truckers” star, Alex Debogorski, acknowledged varying relationships with co-stars. However, he specifically mentioned maintaining contact with Kelly. While the show’s future remains uncertain, Kelly and Debogorski continue to share a seemingly amicable working relationship.
