54 years old Jonathan Knight from HGTV’s “Farm House Fixer” recently talked about baby options for gay couples. On a recent podcast, “Frosted Tips,” singer Lance Bass and the former “New Kids on the Block” band member had a meaningful discussion about coming out in the entertainment industry and their desire to start a family.
Now, let’s see what the singers have to share about their journey to start a family as homosexuals, including their experience with fertility.
Jonathan Knight’s Fertility Journey and Struggles: Does He Have Children?
On the podcast, the fellow singers talked about how both of them struggled emotionally during their fertility journey. Jonathan Knight is married to his husband, Harley Rodriquez, and Lance is married to Michale Turchin.
It was found that both the couple had to struggle for many years to have a baby. While Lance and his partner succeeded and had twins, Alexander and Violet, in October 2021, Jonathan and Rodriquez were unfortunate.
Speaking of his fatherhood journey, Knight said they desperately tried for almost 5 years, but it didn’t work out for them.
“Going through the process, like, ‘Today’s the day the eggs are being implanted.’ You’re so excited, and you’re so happy. And then, you know, a week later it’s like, ‘No, you’re back to square one,” stated the singer to Lance and another co-host, Joey Fatone.
Likewise, Knight said as 95% of their homosexual friends have children, he learned about the fertility process for gay pairs from them.
He explained he felt logical that options were available, such as going to an agency to get a surrogate and egg donation. And though it felt scientifically weird at first, his excitement to have children outnumbered it.
The “Farmhouse Fixer” presenter then explained how challenging it was when pregnancy was not working for them and their friends, on the other hand, were having kids. Upon this, Lance Bass said that his journey of becoming a father was not easy either.
He mentioned it took many years, and he and his partner Turchin had visited more than 10 egg donors, and every time it didn’t work, their hearts would wrench.
Bass further said, “No one understands that emotional journey,” “Because, you know, it took us almost five years to have our kids.”
And in the procedure, they once got pregnant with twins but unfortunately lost both within weeks, one at 3 and another at 6 weeks.
And having to start over again felt frustrating. So Bass said he and his husband decided to try for one last time and thought that if it didn’t succeed, it was the universe asking them not to be parents. But fortunately, they finally got the opportunity to become dads of twins in 2021.
Moreover, Jonathan said that choosing an egg donor by looking at their profiles while considering her age, medical history, and nationality all felt strange, especially when discussing the possible embryo’s genetic composition.
However, he said he and Rodriquez appreciated the opportunity that was only possible due to medical advancement.
What is Jonathan Knight’s View on IVF?
After discussing their hardships, success, and failure in becoming dads, Jonathan highlighted the massive cost of In-vitro fertilization (IVF). He hoped IVF would be an affordable option soon so that every needy person could afford the opportunity.
Finally, at the end of the podcast, everyone joked that if they were not homosexual, they would just make out to get pregnant and would save money. However, the co-host Joe Fatone said no matter what, medical bills and childbirth are always expensive for everyone.
