HGTV’s Mina Starsiak Hawk Leaving Indianapolis for ‘Fresh Start’. Here’s where she is going

After navigating through a challenging period involving her HGTV show, business ventures, and family matters, Mina Starsiak Hawk is poised for a rejuvenating beginning.

Despite her renovation business and the now-closed “Good Bones” series having deep roots in Indianapolis, the mother of two has found a warm reception in the northern suburb of Noblesville. This charming locale is set to be the fresh headquarters for her business, complete with a new store, and might even become the prospective residence for her family. Noblesville could also serve as the picturesque backdrop for an exciting new show in the making.

Mina Starsiak Hawk Says Noblesville Reps Reached Out to Her About Move

In a surprising turn of events, Mina Starsiak Hawk has revealed that her once-closed Indianapolis retail shop, Two Chicks District Co., will be making a comeback in Noblesville. This northern suburb, previously unfamiliar to Starsiak Hawk, has now captured her attention with its promising prospects.

For over 15 years, Starsiak Hawk dedicated herself to renovating run-down homes in Indianapolis, a journey documented through all eight seasons of her immensely popular HGTV show, “Good Bones,” where she collaborated with her mother, Karen E. Laine. Together, they not only transformed homes but also established a renovation business and retail brand called Two Chicks and a Hammer. However, in 2019, Laine retired and sold her share of the business to her daughter, who continued the venture. Despite Laine’s departure, she remained part of the show until its series finale in October 2023.

Prior to the commencement of the eighth season in August, Starsiak Hawk disclosed that she, her mother, and two of her brothers had departed from the show under strained circumstances, resulting in infrequent communication. Laine subsequently relocated to Wilmington, North Carolina, and initiated divorce proceedings with her fourth husband, Roger Rominger.

Simultaneously, in late September, Starsiak Hawk expressed her deep disappointment at having to shut down her Indianapolis retail shop, Two Chicks District Co., by the year’s end due to various financial challenges, including exorbitant rent. However, on December 14, she informed People that shortly after this announcement, a Noblesville businessman reached out to her with a proposal to start afresh in the suburb. This included the prospect of establishing a new store and potentially embarking on a new television project.

Reflecting on the situation, Starsiak Hawk remarked, “I mean, (‘Good Bones’) was a giant commercial for Indianapolis, which was amazing. I guess his thought was having Two Chicks and a Hammer in the neighborhood is good for the businesses.”

Captivated by the allure of Noblesville, Starsiak Hawk decided to explore the town further, drawn to its historic downtown and abundance of old houses. Following meetings with the mayor and attendance at a “State of the City” session, she eagerly reached out to her husband, Steve Hawk.

Excitedly, she exclaimed, “I was like, ‘We can move to Noblesville now. I’m sold.’”

Mina Starsiak Hawk Says She’s Looking Forward to a ‘Fresh Start’ in New Town

Anticipating a fresh start in Noblesville, Starsiak Hawk shared with People her plans to reopen her store in the town in 2024. According to Noblesville Mayor Chris Jensen, they are considering a location in the heart of the downtown area, with an official announcement expected early in the New Year.

Jensen also revealed that Starsiak Hawk and her team are gearing up for renovation projects within the town. “We talked about downtown, the importance of authentic growth, and how we preserve the historic core,” he explained. “I think they liked what they heard and are excited. They’re interested in rehab projects, and I think there are a lot of opportunities downtown.”

Expressing her admiration for the welcoming Noblesville community, Starsiak Hawk told Inside Indiana Business, “They’ve made it impossible to say no to, really. I think it’s gonna be a great opportunity.”

Discussing her enthusiasm for the town’s architecture, she mentioned to People, “There’s so many cool Queen Anne Victorians. There was one that I kind of had my eye on that’s like a block off the square that’s just a mess, which is perfect to me.”

Continuing, she remarked, “Discovering a place that genuinely welcomes us and is creating a comfortable, inviting atmosphere makes it feel like a wonderful, refreshing beginning.”

The prospect of HGTV capturing Starsiak Hawk’s “fresh start” or featuring her renovation endeavors in a new show remains uncertain. However, she expressed her enthusiasm for the idea to Inside Indiana Business.

“I mean, I would love to keep making TV and do it based out of Noblesville,” she conveyed. “You have to be working in a place where the city’s supporting what you’re doing. I think it could work here, yeah.” In the meantime, a “Good Bones” spinoff is already in progress, chronicling the transformation of a lake property recently acquired by Starsiak Hawk and her husband. Whether their relocation to Noblesville with their two young children from downtown Indianapolis will also be part of the narrative remains to be revealed.
