Heather Rae Young shuts down accusations of favoring son Tristan over stepkids

HGTV star Heather Rae Young (now El Moussa), who just welcomed her first child in January, responded to critics who addressed that she favors her and Tarek’s infant son over her stepchildren namely Taylor and Brayden.

Heather dated her lover (now-husband) Tarek El Moussa for two years, and the pair tied the knot in 2021. Before her, Tarek was married to his ex-spouse, Christina Hall, for nine years and had two kids Taylor and Brayden.

Last week, the “Selling Sunset” star had a candid conversation with TODAY.com, where she talked about her motherhood journey. In her follow-up interview, she also touched on an important matter: “mom shaming.”

Fans Believe Heather is spending less time with her step kids.

Young revealed that whenever she uploads a photo of her 4-month-old son Tristan on her Instagram, the vulture-eye netizens appear to question the older children’s whereabouts.

She shared comments like, “Where are the other children? Haven’t seen them on your stories lately?” appeared on her posts.

Discussing the topic, the real estate agent told the publication that it’s easier for her to capture photographs with her baby boy than her two older children as they have school and extra sports activities.

In Heather’s words, “Taylor and Brayden are in school all day, and I’m home with Tristan. I can capture moments with Tristan easily.”

The model also notes that Christina and Tarek hold 50/50 custody of their children, which means Heather spends more time with her son than Taylor and Brayden.

“They’re also busy with sports and tutoring— they always have something going on. I blink and it’s 8 o’clock at night,”

she explained to Today.com,

“So when we’re all together, the last thing I’m doing is standing around taking photos with all three kids.”

Mrs. El Moussa further added that Taylor is now a preteen so she has a say in what pictures of her are posted on social media.

The 35-year-old Netflix star says,

“She’s a teenager now and she’ll be like, ‘I don’t love my hair in that picture,’ ‘Please don’t post that one.”

Taylor attended Heather’s baby shower, which was recorded for episode 10 of “Selling Sunset” (season 6). At the event, the 12-year-old gave a mini-speech and referred to El Moussa as the “best mother.”

“I’ve known you for four years now. I just want to say you’re the best mom ever, and I couldn’t have asked for anyone else,” Taylor also stated that she was, “so excited for the baby.”

On 30 July 2021, Heather posted some cute pictures with Taylor and Brayden on social media, three months before her wedding to Tarek.

She also penned,

“The kids are a huge part of our lives. I’m raising the kids with Tarek and I love being a bonus mom, they are babies and I love them. I’m just so happy and fulfilled.”

In the caption of that post, she wrote,

“Never knew what it was like to feel this much love and joy before these babies came into my life.”

Young has found common ground with Tarek’s ex-wife Christina, knowing that the children, Taylor and Brayden, matter most.

In an early 2020 interview with US Weekly, Hall also openly shared her bond with Heather, remarking that the two connected about different topics, including healthy eating.

“We’ll, like, text each other random recipes right now during isolation,”

Christina told the publication,

“She’ll send me whatever her favorite go-to granola bar is, and I’ll text her back whatever mine is.”
