Tarek El Moussa and Christina Hall Lawsuit: What Happened?
In 2017, a realtor named Jonathan Schimer sued Tarek El Moussa and Christina Hall for $37,000. The man claimed to be a former employee of El Moussa’s estate company, Next Level Property Investments.
Likewise, he also said that the TV stars told him that they were filming “Flip or Flop in North Carolina,” and wanted him to find properties in the major cities of North Carolina.
He also stated that he had worked for El Moussas from March 2016 to October 2016. But, after he was not paid the money for his work, he filed a case against Tarek and Christina in January 2017.
Specifically, Schimer alleged that the former couple assured him a commission of $5,000 per property, a back salary of $12,800, and a total commission of $25,000. However, an anonymous report including Tarek and Christina stated that have only built homes in California and have never met Schimer.
Tarek El Moussa and Christina Hall, Lawsuit Outcome
As the case was under investigation at the court, HGTV also spoke in favour of Tarek and Christina. HGTV and Scripps’s network requested the court to drop the case
“because the standards of diversity jurisdiction are not fulfilled, and no other bases for federal jurisdiction are evident.”
Likewise, the networks said that the case needed more subject matter, and the document was full of grammatical and spelling mistakes.
While El Moussas denied having never met Schmier, the relator assured the court that he met the stars’ operating manager, Pete DeBest, in January 2016 and was offered a 50/50 collaboration deal.
Schmier worked as per the deal, but in October of that year, he was informed that he was never an employee of El Moussa’s company.
However, the realtor had already done considerable work for them, so he tried to resolve the issue with the HGTV hosts and their manager. But as per Schmier, the couple blocked him from email, social media and phone numbers to not pay him.
So, Schmier wants his lawsuit considered even though HGTV has requested that it be dismissed. He believes that even if a lawsuit is filed in the incorrect court, the individual who submitted it deserves to have their case considered rather than being dismissed immediately
While the case’s final outcome is unknown, it is evident that Tarek and Christina have not let it hinder their business or their dedication to their followers. They continued appearing together to flip properties and amuse audiences with their personalities and techniques until 2021.
The former spouses appeared in good spirits as the reality TV show returned to work amid the lawsuit. Christina even used her Instagram handle to announce the beginning of the seventh season of “Flip or Flop,” which premiered on May 10, 2017.
She posted a group photo with the caption,” And just like that… The band is back together!!! #fliporflop #season7 #day1.”
Unfortunately, the former couple couple was also facing a hard time in their personal life during their lawsuit–Tarek and Christina were going through a divorce, and they separated in 2018.
Hence, though “Flop or Flop” faced many obstacles, including the lawsuit and the former couple split, the show’s success remained constant. The program extended for an eighth season and later up to the tenth season, all thanks to the hosts’ extraordinary abilities.
At present, both are busy with their home renovation shows on HGTV. While Christina is occupied with “Christina in the Country,” Tarek is all set with his wife, Heather, for his new flipping show, “The Flipping El Moussaa.”
