Experienced renovation professionals on HGTV are no strangers to the challenges and occasional mishaps that accompany their work. However, during the filming of the fifth season of “Rock the Block” on November 8, 2023, Evan Thomas, a star from “Bargain Block,” encountered an injury of significant severity, necessitating stitches.
Here are the details:
Evan Thomas Required Stitches for Injury He Blames on ‘Dangerous Art’
Thomas, alongside his longtime partner and co-star Keith Bynum, has been in Florida filming the upcoming season of HGTV’s immensely popular competition show, “Rock the Block.”
On November 8, Thomas took to his Instagram Stories to share a photo of his bloodied hand, taken in what appeared to be a medical facility, with a metal table visible behind him. The image revealed that he had received several stitches in the area between his index and middle fingers.
In a lighthearted tone, he captioned the photo with “DANGERS OF ART HANGING LOL,” offering no further explanation.
The following day, Leslie Davis, a friend and fellow competitor from “Unsellable Houses,” posted a photo on her Instagram Stories, drawing attention to Thomas’ injury. In the picture, Davis and her twin sister and co-star Lyndsey Lamb posed with Thomas, who humorously pouted while displaying his injured hand.
Accompanying the photo was Davis’ witty caption: “First set of stitches on the block… Hope we don’t have to amputate. 😜”
Thomas reshared the image on his Stories, adding a crying-with-laughter emoji. However, some fans misinterpreted the photo, believing that Davis was the one with the stitched-up hand. To clear up any confusion, Davis and Thomas filmed a clarification video, which Davis posted on her Stories, and Thomas shared as well.
“Okay, I just want to update you,” Davis began in the video, with Thomas smiling behind her. “It is not me that got injured on the Block.”
Thomas then playfully waved his injured hand in front of the camera, declaring, “It’s me!”
“It’s Evan,” Davis chimed in. “That’s Evan’s hand. That is not a girl’s hand!”
With a hint of humor, she held up her own manicured hand, stating, “This is my hand. Much cuter.”
Thomas jokingly displayed his hand again, remarking, “Very ugly and manly.”
Amid laughter, Davis quipped, “Yes, very manly! So if you’re worried about a hand, be worried about Evan’s hand. Now, how do you think it happened? That’s the real question.”
As the camera focused back on Thomas, he smirked and replied, “Dangerous art!”
Rock The Block Season 5 with Major Plot twist
On October 26, HGTV made an exciting announcement: filming for the fifth season of “Rock the Block” was already in progress at four waterfront homes in Treasure Island, Florida. Breaking new ground, this season would see the return of four past teams, each seeking redemption after falling short in previous seasons.
Among the returning teams are the familiar faces of Thomas and Bynum from “Bargain Block,” Davis and Lamb from “Unsellable Houses,” and Bryan and Sarah Baeumler of “Renovation Island” and “Battle on the Beach.” Joining them are Page Turner and Mitch Glew from “Fix My Flip.”
Notably, Bynum and Thomas previously competed against Lamb and Davis in the third season of “Rock the Block,” ultimately bested by winners Egypt Sherrod and Mike Jackson of “Married to Real Estate” fame.
Meanwhile, the Baeumlers, Turner, and Glew made their mark on the most recent season, which premiered in March 2023. The crown for that season went to Michel Smith Boyd and Anthony Elle from “Luxe for Less.”
Despite facing his own medical emergency while filming another HGTV show earlier in the year, Ty Pennington has returned to host the upcoming season of “Rock the Block.”
According to an HGTV release, each team will receive a budget of $250,000 and six weeks to transform four identical homes along the Florida coast, each boasting a pool and boat dock. As always, the team that adds the most value to their property will claim victory.
As for whether footage of Thomas’ on-set injury will be featured in the upcoming season, only time will tell. Season 5 is set to premiere in March 2024.
