For millions of HGTV viewers, Erin Napier is the warm-hearted designer who transforms homes and lives with her husband, Ben, on Home Town. But behind her calm on-screen presence is a woman who—just like the rest of us—struggles with fear, anxiety, and the pressure of public scrutiny.

And this summer, Erin Napier faced all of it head-on.

Erin and Ben recently embarked on a long-anticipated family trip to Scotland. While the pictures posted to her Instagram show the couple smiling in the cool Scottish breeze, sunglasses on and wrapped in jackets, what the photos don’t show is just how hard it was for Erin to even get on that plane.

“Seeing his homeland with my Scotsman,” Erin captioned the post, referencing Ben’s family roots in Scotland. The image was a sweet snapshot of their love story continuing across the globe. But for Erin, it took a leap of courage to make that moment happen.

In a candid podcast interview with Annie F. Downs before the trip, Erin opened up about the anxiety she was wrestling with. “We’re getting ready to take a trip to Scotland in July to study [Ben’s] family heritage,” she said. “And I am absolutely terrified.”

Erin confessed that traveling across an ocean with her children, Helen and Mae, filled her with fear. “I can’t even think about it,” she admitted. “I have to just — I’m disassociating from it because I can’t let myself think about all the things that can go wrong.”

When Ben tried to downplay it with a smile, she pushed back. “No, they’re totally big things! You cross an ocean and you break your leg, who we calling? Where are we going?”

The honesty in her voice resonated with many fans. She wasn’t just a celebrity mom heading on a European vacation—she was a relatable, vulnerable parent putting her children first, even in the face of personal anxiety.

But just as she confronted her travel fears, Erin also had to confront a different storm—one created not by planes or oceans, but by rumors swirling online.

Around the same time she was preparing for the family trip, online gossip began circulating that Erin and Ben were heading toward divorce. The source? Dubious clickbait websites and AI-generated articles that speculated wildly, often citing no real evidence.

Erin, never one to let falsehoods fester, decided to address the situation head-on.

On July 7, she posted on her Instagram Stories, writing, “Can’t believe I even have to say this but NO, the click bait articles that we are splitting up is not real, y’all.”

She explained that the rumors were completely baseless and added, “They are AI generated in India or something and don’t even make any kind of sense. Y’all are smarter than this.”

But what seemed to frustrate her most was the impact this misinformation could have on her children. In a follow-up post, she pleaded with fans not to mention the rumors in front of her daughters.

“They don’t understand what ‘online fake news’ means and it’s upsetting,” she wrote.

It was a powerful reminder that behind the polished Instagram posts and HGTV productions is a real family trying to raise their kids with peace and privacy.

While the family trip to Scotland may have started with anxiety, it ended up becoming a testament to Erin’s quiet strength. Despite her fears, despite the rumors, she got on the plane. She showed up for her family. And she reminded everyone that sometimes, bravery looks a lot like loving hard in the face of uncertainty.

Whether it’s in front of the camera or in moments no one sees, Erin Napier continues to be what fans love most about her—real, grounded, and endlessly resilient.
