Egypt Sherrod is a 46-year-old television personality and real estate mogul. Her professional portfolio includes running the Egypt Sherrod Real Estate Group, which she founded in Atlanta. When she is not busy conquering the real estate world, Sherrod spends her time working on television. She is a mainstay on reality shows like Married to Real Estate, Black Love, and Property Virgins. With her celebrity status, it comes as no surprise that fans were worried about her wellbeing after she talked about her scary health diagnosis.
Pregnancy and health issues she faced 3 years ago.
During an interview on Black Women’s Health Imperative, Egypt shed light on how she was diagnosed with gestational diabetes three years ago. This is a condition that primarily affects pregnant women whose bodies can’t produce sufficient insulin.
Herrod started off by talking about how she has three daughters in total, two of whom she gave birth to. She had her first daughter at 35, which is typically referred to as a geriatric pregnancy.
Because she was over 35, the pregnancy was very difficult. She experienced prolonged bouts of pain and sickness throughout her pregnancy. Surprisingly though, the delivery proved to be easier than anticipated. Egypt then goes on to discuss her second pregnancy.
This time, she had her second daughter when she was 42 years old. Remarkably, Egypt experienced fewer problems than she had during her first pregnancy.
Everything was going well until her doctor requested a blood test late into the pregnancy. The test revealed that she has gestational diabetes. At the time, Egypt was fully aware that diabetes was a disease that ran in her family.
In fact, her grandfather had succumbed to it several years back, and so it was easy to see why she was more than anxious.
Despite the fact that Sherrod frequently exercised and observed a healthy diet, her worst fears were starting to manifest. Rather than letting the fear rule her life, however, Egypt Sherrod chose to fight back.
She did everything in her power to make sure that she stayed healthy, avoiding foods like rice and pasta in the process. Thankfully, doctors were able to deliver her second baby after a c-section. At the very end, Egypt reveals that she no longer has diabetes and urged pregnant mothers to take care of themselves.
She was wrongly diagnosed with lupus.
In addition to dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic that brought the world to its knees back in 2020, Egypt also had to contend with a lupus diagnosis. This is a condition that occurs when your immune system starts to attack its own tissues rather than protect the body from infection and disease. So, what happened?
After falling sick, Egypt was rushed to the hospital, where doctors diagnosed her with lupus. She spent the next few weeks in a state of panic as this was a life-threatening illness. A few more tests, however, revealed that this was a false diagnosis.
Her doctors instead told her that she had vasculitis, another autoimmune disease that can potentially lead to organ failure.
At this point, Sherrod was tired of her doctor’s attempt at trying to guess what was wrong with her. In her own words, they were just reacting to the symptoms rather than getting to the root of her problem. Devoid of options, she decided to try alternative medicine. This led to the realization that she was suffering from 40 different types of allergies.
At the root of everything was her allergy to sugar, which caused havoc on her body. It not only hampered her breathing but also gave her heart arrhythmia and significant weight gain. After cutting it out, she started to feel better, going from over 190 pounds to 162.
Suffice it to say, she got her allergies under wrap, got off medication, and only started to rely on herbal supplements.
The experience made Egypt Sherrod a sort of advocate for alternative medicine. She encourages her fans to be active when it comes to getting to the root of their health issues.
