In 2012, television audiences were first introduced to the Robertsons—a clan led by patriarch Phil Robertson, alongside his wife Kay, their sons Willie, Jep, and Jase, along with their extended family—when Duck Dynasty premiered on A&E. The show quickly rose to become one of reality TV’s biggest hits. However, after five years and 11 seasons, with the family reportedly earning $1.4 million per season, they decided to bid farewell to the spotlight in 2017 and retreat to their Louisiana roots.
Reflecting on their journey, Korie Robertson, married to Willie, shared in an exclusive interview with E! News’ Francesca Amiker, “It was a whirlwind and it was fun because we were getting to do it as a family. But it did feel like it was time for us to pull everything back.”
As Korie described it, a friend once likened life to an accordion, where it expands and contracts to create music. After five years in the spotlight, the Robertsons were ready to pursue individual paths. “We’re all dreamers and doers,” remarked Sadie Robertson, one of Willie and Korie’s six children.
“Having those years to explore new ventures was amazing.”
For Sadie, it meant authoring a bestselling book, launching a podcast, and embarking on her journey with husband Christian Huff, starting their own family.
“We’ve each grown into our own individuals, discovering our passions along the way,” explained the 26-year-old. “
Exploring new avenues has been fulfilling, shaping who we are today. It’s exciting to embrace fresh experiences and witness where they lead us. Now, we’re eager to see what the future holds.”
Their return to the spotlight is imminent with the release of “The Blind,” a biopic delving into Phil’s formative years in 1960s Louisiana. Addressing his past struggles with alcoholism and the strain of infidelity on his marriage to Kay, the film portrays the journey of redemption that transformed Phil’s life.
In 2020, Phil learned of a daughter from a past affair. DNA testing confirmed a 99.9 percent match with Phyllis Thomas, welcoming her into the family fold.
While Sadie found watching the film difficult, discovering new aspects of her grandparents’ lives, she drew inspiration from its message of hope. Korie described the experience as emotional but emphasized the family’s unity in facing challenges head-on, a trait they cultivated during their time on the show.
“We always prioritize what truly matters,” Korie explained.
“The opinions of those who truly know us are what count. It’s about living authentically and valuing the people closest to us.”
Sadie praised her parents for guiding her and her siblings in establishing healthy boundaries, which prompted her to take a seven-month hiatus from social media earlier this year.
“Sometimes, stepping away is necessary, and it was incredibly beneficial,” she shared.
“Now that I’m back, I have a renewed perspective and feel grounded in my relationships.”
However, she acknowledged that ignoring negativity isn’t always simple.
“It’s a tough realization,” Sadie acknowledged.
“Setting boundaries is crucial. You have to take a step back, gather strength, and surround yourself with the right influences.”
With the impending release of “The Blind” and the launch of their production company, the Robertsons may make a return to television on their terms.
“We believe in bringing more positivity to entertainment,” Korie expressed.
“We want to share stories of hope, light, and faith. If that means returning to unscripted TV, well, maybe. We’ll see!”

Dad and Daughter
“This day ended my first duck season with a great hunt,” Phyllis captioned this January 2021 snapshot.
“And this day one year ago marks the beginning of my life with my real dad after learning paternity tests came back positive. Positive. Have there been ups and downs on this crazy ride? Yes. But we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose -Romans 8:28. I’m so very thankful this day and this one year anniversary ended on a positive note.”

The hunting trips weren’t just about bagging waterfowl; they provided an opportunity for deep theological discussions, appreciation for nature’s wonders, and the chance to hone new skills. Additionally, Phyllis contributed to a missions fundraiser and shared the Gospel, making the season not only successful in terms of hunting but also in fostering spiritual growth and community engagement.
