Chip and Joanna Gaines are DIY experts and entrepreneurs who have made it their life’s mission to improve their hometown.
They worked tirelessly over the years to renovate several dilapidated homes across their hometown.
In time, the two would even venture into business, setting up their now famed Magnolia Empire. Money and fame did not, however, go to their heads.
Chip and Joanna are also philanthropists who are involved with several charitable ventures. They use their extensive wealth and influence to try and improve the lives of everyone around them.
Contribution to the Cove
The Cove was a foundation that was set up six years ago. Its primary aim was to help hundreds of homeless students in the Waco community.
The organization stepped in to assist students who could not afford any form of accommodation.
Reports suggest that back in 2016, the foundation committed to assisting over 300 local students.
Moreover, nearly half of this number also registered the fact that they did not have any guardians looking after them.
At first, all the Cove could do was offer the students a few hot meals every day, a quiet area to study, and laundry services.
They did not have the means to offer a roof over their heads, which was perhaps the most pressing need. This is where Chip and Joanna Gaines stepped in, through their Magnolia Foundation.
They made a sizeable donation, the largest in the Cove’s history.
The money Chip and Joanna funnelled into the Cove helped its founders develop housing solutions. It meant that homeless students could now have a roof over their heads.
Interestingly, the executive director of the Cove refused to give any further detail regarding the exact amount Chip and Joanna contributed.
Chip’s work with St Jude’s Hospital
Last year, fans noticed that Chip had started growing his hair out. When quizzed about it, Chip Gaines revealed that it was for a good cause.
He was looking to donate his hair to children at St Jude’s hospital who were recovering from cancer. One of the side effects of chemo is hair loss. And so, Chip decided that he’d donate his hair, which would then be turned into a wig for the kids to wear.
Chip documented this process online, and unsurprisingly, it drew a lot of attention from fans.
They promised to donate money if Chip Gaines followed through with cutting his hair.
In the end, Chip was able to raise about $500,000 for St Jude’s Hospital. This would go a long way in helping children with cancer.
Moreover, he’d also follow through with shaving his head bald, which helped raised more awareness for the cause.
If that wasn’t enough, his wife, Joanna Gaines, threw in an additional $50,000 to the Children with Hair Loss Foundation.
In 2019, Chip and Joanna made another donation to St Jude’s Hospital. This time, they helped raised $1.5 million to help the hospital build a playhouse for the kids.
G.W. Carver Middle School
The G.W. Carver Middle School was rocked with tragedy on July 26th, 2021. A good section of the school was engulfed in fire in the early hours of the morning.
The damaged impacted the community at large, especially since the school was an important part of the town’s history. All the students were forced to attend different academic institutions.
Unsurprisingly, the community got together to try and rebuild the school. Chip and Joanna Gaines also got involved.
This time, they raised funds through their popular restaurant, the Magnolia Table.
The couple set aside all the money they made from the 11th of August to the 13th and donated it to the reconstruction of the school. In total, they managed to raise around $15,000.
Their donation to local sports
Chip and Joanna Gaines recently used their Magnolia Foundation to raise $73,000 for the Bledsoe-Miller Community Centre. This is an organisation that supported local athletes in the area.
The couple also encouraged other locals in the area to donate sporting equipment and gear to supplement what was on offer.
