Ami Brown, widely recognized from the reality series “Alaskan Bush People,” is currently facing a legal challenge stemming from a breach of contract lawsuit originally filed against her late husband, Billy Brown. The lawsuit was initiated by investor Robert Maughon in April 2021, who claims that Billy failed to honor contractual agreements by withholding profits related to the show before his death.
The legal action targets both Billy’s estate and his business entity, Alaskan Wilderness Family Productions. Filed just two months after Billy’s passing, this case highlights the often complicated legal issues that can emerge following the death of a public figure.
The $500,000 lawsuit brings attention to the financial and contractual complexities involved in producing reality television shows. It also underscores how such ventures can lead to intricate disputes over profit-sharing and obligations.
More than two years after the initial filing, The U.S. Sun has exclusively reported that Amora “Ami” Brown—Billy’s widow and executor of his estate—has now been formally added as a defendant in this ongoing litigation.
Court documents reveal that Maughon’s claim seeks compensation not only from Billy but also implicates marital property shared with Ami. Given her role within their marital community and her active defense of Billy’s estate since its inception, it was deemed necessary to include Ami as an official defendant in these proceedings.
The court papers argue that Ami has not been unfairly disadvantaged by this inclusion since she has already been actively involved through her legal representation. The motion requests permission for Maughon to amend his complaint formally naming Ami as a defendant moving forward.
BILLY’S ESTATE UNDER FIRE
As previously detailed by The U.S. Sun, Robert Maughon asserts he entered into an agreement with Billy on January 6th, 2009 where he invested $20,000 into Alaska Wilderness Family Productions—a company associated with books authored by Billy himself. In return for this investment, Robert claims he was promised 10 percent of all income generated from these publications over ten years.
However, according to court filings submitted by Robert: “Billy Bryan Brown failed to pay Plaintiff Robert Micky Maughon any monies owed under this Ten Year contract.”
Additionally—and complicating matters further—Robert alleges there was another agreement made on January 25th of the same year where he invested an additional $10,000 for what was described as a “lifetime” arrangement involving royalties from all creative works produced under Alaska Wilderness Family Productions including books but also extending into movies or television projects like “Alaskan Bush People.”
Despite these agreements being allegedly notarized with signatures appearing authentic according to evidence presented during litigation; payments were never made under either contract leading up until now when damages totaling half-a-million dollars are being sought alongside demands for trial proceedings against those responsible within said production company or its affiliates tied directly back towards Mr.Brown himself prior-to-his-passing away earlier last year (2021).
In support thereof; copies showing both contracts have been submitted alongside other relevant documentation pertaining specifically towards creditor claims filed against Mr.Brown’s estate which further complicates ongoing disputes surrounding unresolved financial obligations left behind posthumously following sudden demise earlier last February (2021).
