Million Dollar Beach House
Where to watch: Bravo, Peacock
Much like its Los Angeles-based Netflix counterpart, “Selling Sunset,” “Million Dollar Beach House” offers a voyeuristic peek into the high-stakes world of luxury real estate. This time, however, the battleground is the Hamptons, as agents for Nest Seekers International head to market in the East End. The six half-hour episodes are packed with interpersonal drama as the agents stake out their piece of the lucrative Hamptons townhouse market, or fight for some semblance of control over the office dynamics. Along the way, they digest some of the area’s stunning mansions by giving the audience a whirlwind tour of some of the region’s most lavish digs.
Beyond the backstabbing and drama, “Million Dollar Beach House” stands visually on its own thanks to the diverse architectural styles that characterize the Hamptons. From pristine modern homes to classic cedar shake beach houses, the show screens like a pure celebration of the built environment in an otherworldly East End where “cœurs des cœurs” and backyard cabanas sit cheek to jowl. Even if you take the series at mute value, the spectacle of these fabulously affluent hedge-fund seats can hardly help but impress, inspire and awe. Whether they’re watching the drama, or just there for the architecture porn, audiences are sure to be taken on an odyssey they won’t soon forget.
